Our Chorus Leadership

Our City Chorus thrives because of the energy and style of the people who have stepped up to lead. Here are a few of the people that make our ensemble tick:

Peggy Marruffo - Director

Peggy started singing barbershop in 1989.  I started out in the lead section, but changed to baritone after about a year.  I knew the first night that I really wanted to join, but the membership chair at the time, Esther Strader, told me that I had to wait until after 5 visits just to make sure that this was really the organization for me.  I've been singing since I was really little and sang harmony with my mother and sister at church from a young age.  I currently direct the folk choir at an area church and have been doing that for the past 25 years or so.  One of the reasons I joined the chorus was because I like to sing and because I didn't want to spend all my evenings at home.  I wanted to get out and meet other people and do something that made me fell good.

I am a board member and currently the treasurer.  As treasurer, I make sure that all of our financial obligations are met in a timely manner.  This fits into the role I have as an accountant by trade.  I am also the section leader for the leads and as such, I teach the lead parts to the section as well as the check the qualification tapes and mentor the leads as necessary.  Also as section leader, I serve on the music committee who recommends coaching/song choices.

 Ruth Pancost, Publicity Chair
I am a Board Member and Publicity Chair and  Events coordinator for our chorus.  That means I will make reservations for any functions and keep everyone in touch with what goes on in our region.  I have also established contact with our sister chorus in our new region starting in May of 2013.  I have also been president several times and have chaired a couple of annual shows.  I have been in a quartet and actually finished in 3rd place one year.  I always tell people that Sweet Adelines is my "other life".  I think they understand what I mean.

I sing baritone and have been a member of the Danville Show Chorus for 43 years.  I started before my daughter was born and she was raised right along in the barbershop harmony.
